"As the Canadian National Railroad retires whole fleets of locomotives, the so called "Blue Devils" succumbed to that fate in 2021. Once numbering a dozen Conrail-blue painted C40-8W locomotives meant for leasing service between CN and Conrail, the engines were given to the newly acquired Illinois Central following the demise of Conrail due to legal reasons regarding their leasing status. Over the years, a few have been wrecked, more repainted, but seven lingered in the original Conrail/LMSX blue - until CN retired the entire fleet of Dash 8 locomotives en masse. The Blue Devils, nicknamed for their red-eyed marker lights and classic blue, have joined the ranks of the fallen flags."
