The Deseret Power Railway is best viewed from up high, and so that's where we went - hiking a mile into the Uinta Basin and climbing atop a sizable hill presented us with a stunning view of the basins colourful sandstone ridges, not to mention the dry brush and sand that shows why they call this place a desert. The DPR E60s, the last electric locomotives of their kind, departed the distantly visible Bonanza Power Plant with empty coal cars and are headed for the mine. That desert-themed paint just feels right at home in this stunning landscape, and we never felt so relieved that our efforts in getting here were worth our while.
