"Paducah Power" - Print
The Illinois Terminal Belt is a short railroad, holding only a few miles of former Illinois Central Railroad trackage. There, they operate trains with old IC GP10 locomotives. The GP10s were built in the hundreds - the IC's Paducah, KY shops took aging 1950s GP7s and GP9s and did a full engine rebuild - under and above the hood. With new cabs, air filters, upgraded power packs, and plenty more, the GP10 rebuilds have allowed engines built 70 years ago to continue hauling away today, such as right here in Wapella, IL. Two GP10s and now-gone MP15 haul grain towards Clinton, IL on a very hot and very bright summer day in 2020.
